Project for safe passenger transportation
During the period 1988. – 2007, on the territory of Republic of Serbia, there had been more than 920.000 traffic accidents, among which more than 260.000 were with injured. In the same period in traffic accident there had been more than 23.000 killed, and more than 348.000 injured.
By analyzing the data about traffic accidents on the global level, it can be concluded that more than 90% of traffic accidents occurs in poor and undeveloped countries.
The experiences of developed countries show that by applying certain measures (preventive, repressive…) the number of traffic accidents can be affected, as well as the level of consequences, in other words – traffic safety can be managed.
In the period 2005 – 2009, on the territory of Republic of Serbia (Kosovo and Metohija excluded), there have been 24,226 traffic accidents with buses. In those traffic accidents, there were 92 people killed, and 2.697 person was injured and great material damage was made.
The consequences of social, political and economic events on the territory of former Republic of Yugoslavia, affected the decrease of the level of traffic safety, even in the systems where transport is professional and main activity.
Especially alarming is the data about accidents involving children during bus transportation. Our goal is, that by applying numerous systematic measures, we contribute to the improvement of traffic safety level in mass passenger transportation. Participation in the project for safe passenger transportation is voluntary.
In association with the biggest transporters in the country and other expert organizations, since December 2004, Department for traffic safety at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade, has been working on improving activities and measures that can be used to decrease the risk of participating in traffic accidents and the level of consequences.
The use and the improvement of this project are of national importance, and the results of the use of this project are going to be the decreased number of traffic accidents and the consequences.
The project is supported by: The Ministry for Infrastructure, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade, Serbian Committee for Traffic Safety and other international companies that are part of the process of passenger transportation.
